If talking about Dulla Bhatti, then he was a Muslim robber who survived in Punjab throughout the period of influence of ruler Akbar. At the back robbing the wealthy, he rescued Hindu girls being compulsorily taken to be sold in slave bazaar. He organized their weddings to Hindu boys with Hindu customs and offered them with dowries. As expected, though a crook, he turns out to be a Punjabi’s hero. Thus every other Lohri chant has words to convey thankfulness to Dulla Bhatti.
